The New Path Through Coligny Circle, and the Fall Calendar It Connects

Last November, the corner between Carolina Coffee and Crumbs and the Shell Shop was a triangle of cleared ground. Crews were hauling away rubble while the Town got ready to build there, according to the Island Packet. The paper put the budget at $900,000 and expected the work to finish in April 2026.

The Town of Hilton Head Island announced the Coligny Circle Pocket Park open on May 11, 2026. Most of the summer went by before Forest Beach had much reason to use it. That changes over the next five weeks. From mid-October to mid-November, the island's busiest outdoor calendar takes place on Coligny Plaza, at Lowcountry Celebration Park and along South Forest Beach. The new path runs through the middle of all three.

What Fits on Less Than a Third of an Acre

The Town lists the park at .29 acres, which is small for a project with this much reach. Its main feature is a widened multi-use route between Pope Avenue and North Forest Beach Drive. Around it are paver walks, benches, bike racks, trellis tables and chairs, shade trees and pathway lighting.

The park sits between Coligny Circle and Coligny Plaza. It was paid for with Coligny/Pope Avenue tax-increment financing, which ties the project to this one district. When the construction notice went out in the fall of 2025, the Town's list of work was mostly about getting people from one place to another. It included pathway widening, a path into the plaza, gathering space, landscaping, lighting and stormwater improvements.

The lighting matters most this fall. Several of the events coming up run past sunset, so the walk home will often be in the dark.

The Calendar That Lands on This Corner

This year's Crescendo Celebration of Arts & Culture is the 10th. The Town's Office of Cultural Affairs and the Arts Council of Hilton Head are running it from October 9 through November 22, 2026, with more than 100 events across the island. The kickoff is on the north end, at Shelter Cove Community Park on Wednesday, October 14. From 5 to 7 p.m., jazz artist Mark Rapp and the Soda City Band headline. After that, several of the festival's biggest outdoor nights move south to Forest Beach. Coligny Plaza adds its own events to the same weeks.

Here is the sequence, in order:

  1. Friday, October 16, 7:30 p.m. The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra performs "Symphony Under the Stars" at Lowcountry Celebration Park. This year's program is "Day-O: Harry Belafonte at 100," with trumpeter Etienne Charles and vocalist René Marie.
  2. Sunday, October 18. Rock N Ribs 2026 has a single show with Cowboy Mouth and Cranford Hollow, a band Coligny Plaza's event listing calls "local legends." All-you-can-eat barbecue starts at 3:00, and tickets are sold in advance.
  3. Friday, October 23, 6 to 8 p.m. The free Crescendo Songwriter Show at Lowcountry Celebration Park features original music by Eric Reid & The Hebron Road Ramblers, with special guests Matt Eckstine and Nick Poulin. Food and drinks will be sold on site.
  4. Thursday, October 29, 4 to 7 p.m. Halloween at Coligny brings trick-or-treating to the whole plaza. The costume contest is at 6 p.m. and has a pet category for the first time this year.
  5. Saturday, November 14, 5:45 p.m. The Hilton Head Island Lantern Parade moves along South Forest Beach and finishes at Lowcountry Celebration Park.

Every Friday and Sunday in October, from 5 to 7 p.m., Jevon Daly's Kids Show also runs on Coligny Plaza. Twice it overlaps with a bigger event. On October 16 the kids' show wraps up shortly before the symphony starts at 7:30. On October 18 it shares the evening with Rock N Ribs.

Reading the Weeks as One Route

Taken together, the dates put events at Coligny nearly every week for a month, and they move between the plaza, Celebration Park and the beach-side streets.

The October 16 weekend is the busiest. The symphony is Friday night at Celebration Park, the kids' show is on the plaza both evenings, and Rock N Ribs takes over Sunday. The pocket park is part of the route from Coligny Circle to the event locations. Before May, that route meant walking the Pope Avenue edge of the circle.

The following Friday is quieter, with the free songwriter show from 6 to 8. Halloween at Coligny falls on a Thursday. Its 4 to 7 p.m. window starts in daylight and ends after dark, so families walking over from North Forest Beach Drive will come back on a lit path.

After that, the Forest Beach calendar is mostly quiet until the Lantern Parade on November 14. It's the only event of the season that travels through the neighborhood instead of staying in one venue. It goes along South Forest Beach and ends at Lowcountry Celebration Park. The parade starts at 5:45 p.m., and the route itself is the show, so the residential stretch south of the circle is part of the event.

Crescendo also offers indoor options in the same weeks. "Primary Trust," which won the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, plays at Lean Ensemble Theater from October 30 through November 8. It fills the gap between Halloween and the parade.

What Isn't on the Calendar Yet

Not everything a resident might plan for this season has been announced. The Town's Crescendo release mentions two weekly markets but gives no dates or locations for them. Neither the Town nor Coligny Plaza had posted a 2026 date for a holiday tree lighting as of this writing. The holiday schedule for this part of the island is still open, and anyone planning December weekends will need to keep checking.

None of the events in the Town's Crescendo sample or on Coligny Plaza's calendar is listed for the pocket park itself. They are set on Coligny Plaza or at Lowcountry Celebration Park. The park works as the connection between them, and its trellis tables and benches are open seating for whoever passes through.

Smaller Changes Around the Edges

A few other changes this year affect the same short walks.

On Lagoon Road, the Town began trimming or removing overgrown vegetation and adding new plantings on August 17, 2026, and expected to finish in September, according to the Town's August 21 newsletter. The Lagoon Road side of the plaza should look more open going into the darker evenings.

Inside the plaza, Pet Wants is now open, according to a June 24 post on Coligny Plaza's site. The timing works out for anyone entering a dog in the new pet category of the October 29 costume contest.

Three things in the area are new or changed this year: the park, the cleaned-up Lagoon Road edge and the shop. None of them is a major project by itself. All three are within a few minutes' walk of each other, and this fall's calendar has events in that same small area almost every week.
